The local Military Authorities accept this valuation and have

I understand recommended that the land be transferred at this

price.

I propose to recommend to you that this land be thrown into the precincts of the Hongkong University. There is not room enough around the University for future extension for quarters for students and staff, and I am of opinion that this land which is admirably suited for the purpose should be thus utilised. This question will form the subject of a separate despatch. But even if you should not approve of my suggestion the land will still be valuable to the Colonial Government who could dispose of it for building purposes.

2.

I shall be glad to learn whether you approve of these transfers and of the War Department being credited in the Military Lands Account accordingly.

3.

I attach a plan showing positions of Murray and

Victoria Batteries.

I have the honour to be,

gir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Governor,&c.
